Este artículo, reflexiona sobre la relación de las bibliotecas con la paz. Las bibliotecas dependen de la paz para su existencia, desarrollo y supervivencia, al mismo tiempo que estas contribuyen a preservar y construirla La primera parte de este escrito, analiza el surgimiento de los movimientos internacionalistas y pacifistas en el siglo XIX y su relación con la llegada moderna de la bibliotecología y la ciencia de la documentación. Posteriormente se discute el rol de las bibliotecas en la consolidación de la paz, tal como fue concebida por la UNESCO e indaga sobre las diferentes concepciones contemporáneas sobre el concepto paz. Finalmente, se explora el rol de las bibliotecas para la construcción de la paz.
