Resumo

Os materiais de linguagem e, em particular, os livros escolares são para os formandos uma fonte de exposição à língua e à cultura. Em contextos multiculturais, estas se tornam ferramentas poderosas que permitem encontros interculturais entre indivíduos que têm diferentes origens culturais. No entanto, a realidade mostra que, em grande medida, os livros didáticos ainda são projetados a partir de perspectivas tradicionais que não permitem que os alunos desenvolvam habilidades de comunicação para evitar encontros interculturais. Pelo contrário, reforçam estereótipos e apoiam a ideia de que uma nacionalidade é superior a outras. Este artigo apresenta alguns constructos teóricos e os resultados obtidos de uma etapa de pesquisa qualitativa que buscou determinar como um conjunto de materiais baseado em princípios poderia desenvolver a competência comunicativa intercultural em estudantes de línguas (ICC).
